The young actors who played villains in ‘Officer on Duty’ have opened up about the intense preparation that went into their roles, revealing the physical toll of their performances. The film, starring Kunchacko Boban, has become a major box-office success and marks the directorial debut of Jithu Asharef.
In an interview with FilmiBeat, Aiswarya, Leya, and Vishnu, who portrayed drug-addicted antagonists, shared their experiences. Aiswarya said they studied films and real-life interviews of people struggling with addiction to make their performances more authentic.
“We were given several films as references and also did our own research. Each drug has a different effect, and we tried to incorporate those nuances into our portrayals. It was important to understand how a person reacts to substances; otherwise, those familiar with addiction might find our performances unrealistic,” she said.
Leya recalled how the team had to practice inhaling glucose powder to simulate drug use, which unexpectedly led to discomfort.
“We had to rehearse how to inhale the powder used in the scenes. We kept doing it repeatedly for almost an hour. Eventually, the sweetness settled in our throats, and by nighttime, we all had headaches. Since we had to shoot multiple takes, the headaches became a common issue for everyone,” she said.
She also revealed that she sustained injuries while filming a violent scene. “I ended up with a big lump on my head and had to be taken to the hospital. The pain made me cry, even though I kept telling everyone I was fine. There’s even a photo of Chackochan and me sitting with ice packs. But despite the pain, it was a lot of fun,” she added.
Along with Kunchacko Boban, ‘Officer on Duty’ features Priyamani, Vishak Nair, and Jagadish in key roles. Written by Shahi Kabir, the film continues to perform strongly at the box office.
