Idukki: Popular actor Poojappura Ravi alias Raveendran Nair passed away on Sunday. He was 86. He breathed his last due to age-related illness at his daughter’s residence in Marayoor, Idukki. 

Ravi, who was popular for essaying humour roles, made his film debut through ‘Veluthampi Dalawa’ in 1962. He has played more than 600 characters in numerous plays, television serials and movies.

Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Raveendran Nair made his acting debut through the play ‘Oraal Koodi Kallanayi’ acting the role of ‘Beerankunju’. He later adopted the stage name ‘Poojappura Ravi’ as there were numerous actors with similar names in the industry at the time.   

Ravi was also a part of 'Kalanilayam Drama Vision' and was known for his unique voice and body language. He has played various character, humour and negative-shaded roles in around 800 films. 

Some of his popular movies include ‘Kallan Kappalil Thanne,’ ‘Ormmakal Marikkumo’, ‘Ammini Ammavan,’ ‘Odaruthammava Aalariyam’, ‘Kuyiline Thedi’, ‘Poochakkoru Mookkuthi’, ‘Love in Singapore’, ‘Nandi Veendum Varika’, ‘Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu’, Manjadikuru’, ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu,’ ‘The Car’, ‘Kizhakkan Pathrose’ among others. 

Ravi had shifted residence from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki in December 2022. He was last seen in the Tovino Thomas-starrer ‘Guppy’, which was released in 2016.
