In a world of swiftly flashing frames, Nishadh Yusuf brought a rhythmic magic to every cut, every scene—a genius editor whose seamless transitions in the film ‘Thallumaala’ were celebrated as much as the film’s storyline itself. With his impeccable editing style, Nishadh won over critics, audiences and a prestigious Kerala State Award, all thanks to his mastery of cinematic timing and pace. Tragically, Nishadh’s journey has come to an abrupt and heart-wrenching end, leaving the Malayalam film industry in disbelief.
Hailing from Haripad, Nishadh's journey began in the seats of SN Theatre, where he fell in love with cinema. That early passion soon evolved into a desire to bring stories to life through editing. A move into animation after his degree became his turning point, leading to a specialisation in visual effects and editing. After completing his diploma, he joined an editing studio in Thiruvananthapuram, taking on roles with local television channels and serials before stepping into the film world.
Nishadh’s debut as an independent editor was ‘Raghuvinte Swantham Rasiya’, directed by Vinayan. His talent and courage were evident early on, as Vinayan recalls: "When I needed support, Nishadh approached me, asking to work as an assistant editor. At that time, I was being shunned by the industry. When I asked Nishadh if he’d edit my film, he confidently agreed, with a resolute conviction that resonated in his words. He even insisted that his name be included in the credits, despite his newness. He was courageous, and his growth was the recognition of that bravery."
From ‘Unda’ to ‘Thallumaala’, Nishadh became the trusted editor of director Khalid Rahman, leaving his indelible mark on each of his films. He also handled editing for ‘Operation Java’, ‘Saudi Vellakka’, and many more. Nishadh also rose to prominence in Tamil cinema, editing high-profile films featuring stars like Suriya, including the highly anticipated ‘Kanguva’, set for release on November 14.
With his warm spirit and passion, Nishadh earned respect from his peers across the industry. Producer Sandeep Senan said, "He was incredibly sensitive, quick to anger and just as quick to get emotional. That’s the nature of creative people. Perhaps that sensitivity was also what…”
He left his thoughts unfinished, a silence filled with sadness.

Director Shaji Azeez, who collaborated with Nishadh on the trailer for ‘Wolf’, remembers, “We had a small disagreement, and afterward, he apologised to our mutual friend. That was his nature. Sensitive and genuine.”
The news of Nishadh’s passing in the early hours of Wednesday left both the Malayalam and Tamil film worlds in shock. Police found him in his Panampilly Nagar flat following a call from his wife.
