Veteran actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 in Goa. Known for his intense performances and distinctive screen presence, Patekar made a lasting impact on Hindi and Marathi cinema as well as Marathi theatre.

The Maharashtra government has decided to accord the actor a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi theatre and both Marathi and Hindi cinema. The funeral is scheduled to be held at 4 pm at his farmhouse in Pune.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned Nana Patekar’s death and remembered the veteran actor for his intensity, individuality and versatility.

“Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had,” Modi wrote on X.

The Prime Minister said Patekar brought remarkable versatility and creativity to his performances and created characters that would be remembered for generations. He also recalled the actor’s reputation for expressing his views frankly and fearlessly.

Maharashtra government announces state funeral

The Maharashtra government has announced a state funeral for Nana Patekar as a mark of respect for his contribution to the state’s cultural landscape.

The decision recognises his work across Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema. The state funeral will take place at 4 pm at his Pune farmhouse.

President Droupadi Murmu mourns veteran actor’s death

President Droupadi Murmu also expressed grief over Nana Patekar’s demise.

Remembering his career, Murmu said the actor brought a wide range of human experiences to life through his powerful and deeply evocative performances. She noted that his characters had left a lasting impression on audiences.

The President also highlighted Patekar’s commitment to social service and his concern for underprivileged communities.

Calling his death a great loss to Indian cinema, Murmu extended her condolences to his family and admirers.
