Hyderabad/Mumbai: In a major setback for the makers of 'Kannappa', a highly anticipated mythological epic starring Vishnu Manchu, a hard drive containing crucial unreleased footage from the film has reportedly gone missing.

Following this, Film Nagar police registered a criminal case against two persons for illegal possession of a hard drive.

The incident happened amid ongoing promotional activities for the film, which is slated for a grand theatrical release on June 27, 2025. The film, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and also featuring leading actors from multiple film industries, including Mohanlal from Malayalam, has garnered significant attention for its high production values.

Reddy Vijay Kumar, Executive Producer of the Hyderabad-based content development company Twenty-Four Frames Factory Pvt Ltd, has filed a complaint alleging that a hard drive containing critical VFX data for the film was misappropriated after its delivery to their office in Film Nagar.

According to Telugu media reports, Mumbai-based HIVE Studios, which is handling the film’s VFX work, had sent a hard drive containing key visual content to the production office of 'Kannappa' via courier. The package, reportedly sent through DTDC, had since gone missing.

The film is based on the legend of Kannappa, a devotee of the god Shiva. The film stars Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Preity Mukhundhan and Madhoo. The film also includes special cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal. The film's production team features Hollywood cinematographer Sheldon Chau, action director Kecha Khamphakdee, choreographer Prabhu Deva, and Brinda. Shot across New Zealand, the film stars a slew of talented artists from across the film industries in India.
