Kochi: Actor Mohanlal’s fan association has launched a scathing attack on director Major Ravi, accusing him of drastically changing his stance on ‘L2E: Empuraan'.

The All Kerala Mohanlal Fans Cultural and Welfare Association alleged that Major Ravi initially praised the film and its director, Prithviraj Sukumaran, but later made a complete u-turn in his statements, a move they said would “put a chameleon to shame.”

In a Facebook post, the association criticised Ravi for attempting to create misunderstandings among the film’s crew, who were already under pressure. They dismissed his remarks as an insult to the intelligence of Kerala’s audience and urged the media not to mistake the voices of those with vested interests as Mohanlal’s own.

The association claimed that after watching ‘Empuraan’ with the crew and fans, Ravi initially described the film as “world-class” and congratulated Prithviraj. However, the very next day, he allegedly changed his tone and began criticising both the film and its director, a move they suggested was purely for publicity.

“Does he think the people of Kerala are foolish enough to believe everything he says?” the post read. “Mohanlal deeply values his friendships, which is why he chooses to ignore the mudslinging against him.”

Allegations of self-glorification

The association also accused Ravi of consistently trying to misrepresent Mohanlal’s actions for personal gain. They claimed that he had previously attempted to take undue credit for the actor’s charitable work through the Viswasanthi Foundation, making it seem like his own effort.

“Years ago, we trusted a promise he made under the pretense of Mohanlal’s good deed. It was only much later that we realised it was a false claim meant for his own self-glorification. Even Mohanlal himself was unaware of it at the time,” the statement alleged.

The fans also questioned whether there was any real need for Mohanlal to clarify his stance following Ravi’s comments, suggesting that speculation about an apology was unwarranted.

The association ended its statement by urging the media to differentiate between genuine concerns and misleading narratives, emphasising that cinema should be viewed as cinema.
