
Mithun Chakraborty, once the youth icon of Indian cinema who is now honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, dedicates the accolade to his fans.
Reflecting on his journey, Mithun recalls the immense struggles he faced, including a moment when he was left homeless and starving on the streets. In an interview with News18, he reminisced about his days lying on the footpath in Mumbai, gazing at the stars.
"I started my life on the streets. I initially acted in C-grade films, then progressed to B-grade films. When I first received a National Award, a journalist approached me for an interview. I said, 'I haven’t eaten, please get me some food.' The kind man obliged and brought me something to eat," he shared.
On the previous day, the Central Government announced Mithun’s name for the prestigious Phalke Award. Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the award recognises his contributions to Indian cinema.
Mithun Chakraborty began his cinematic journey in 1976 and still holds a special place in the hearts of film lovers. Through films like ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Jung’, ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahi’ and ‘Mard’,he has created a massive fan base across India. His latest appearance was in the Bengali film ‘Kabooliwala’, released in December 2023.
Also, a BJP politician, Mithun was also awarded the Padma Bhushan earlier this year.
