Thiruvananthapuram: The circumstances prevailing in the film industry do not warrant a situation where film producers have to go on strike, said Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian. He also mentioned that he had received a letter from film producer G Suresh Kumar highlighting issues in the film industry. The minister's response came after actor and filmmaker Antony Perumbavoor's Facebook post criticising Suresh Kumar’s undemocratic style.

"Suresh Kumar gave me a letter demanding three things. It has been handed over to the authorities concerned for a detailed review. One of the issues is related to GST, which needs to be handled by the Finance Department. It can be brought to their attention. The other two issues are related to the film industry," the minister said. He added that these issues will be discussed at the department level, and necessary steps taken.

"More clarity needs to be brought in connection with the strike. As of now, the government thinks that there are no immediate reasons that demand a strike. If there are issues within the film organisations, let them resolve them. According to the feedback received, films have been performing well at the box office," the minister stated.

“In the current scenario, there is no possibility that organisations will proceed with a strike. A strike will only move forward if it receives full support from organisations like FEFKA,” Saji Cherian added.

Producer Antony Perumbavoor spoke out against G Suresh Kumar on Thursday, alleging that Suresh doesn’t have the full support of producers in the organisation. He also criticised Suresh Kumar’s undemocratic style of operation. Actors such as Prithviraj and Unni Mukundan have also voiced their support for Antony’s stance.
