Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi’s revamped list of recognised art forms including ‘mimicry’ in it.

The demand for officially recognising mimicry as an art form is finally fulfilled after a decade. Marking the changes, the Akademi had included popular mimicry artist KS Prasad in its general counsel some time ago. Cultural department secretary Mini Antony eventually issued an order yesterday approving the change of status of the art form.

The move is considered highly beneficial for numerous mimicry artists in the state. They will now be eligible for several Akademi awards and also will be able to avail the benefits of several welfare schemes, which they could not access earlier.
