Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Manju Warrier and filmmaker Rajeev Ravi have decided to opt out of the committee, formulated by Kerala State Film Development Corporation, to draft a comprehensive film policy citing busy shooting schedules, said committee chairman Shaji N Karun. 

As per reports, a decision is yet to be made on whether to include anyone else in the committee. Nevertheless, the film policy is expected to be drafted ahead of the film conclave scheduled to be held in Kochi in September.  

The 10-member committee was formulated by the government with the aim to draft the policy report within two months. Members of the committee include actor-cum-MLA Mukesh, director B Unnikrishnan, actors Padmapriya, Nikhila Vimal, producer Santhosh Kuruvila and Academy secretary Ajoy Chandran among others. 

Meanwhile, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) on Monday expressed dismay over the decision to form the committee and stated, “While we appreciate the government’s initiative we are profoundly dismayed by the manner in which the committee formation has been executed.”    

Further, WCC alleged that the committee was constituted without due consideration for the consent of its members and asserted that such arbitrary committees do not offer a viable solution to the deeply entrenched issue within the workplace.
