Anju Prabhakar, who began her career as a child actor in the early 1980s, went on to become one of the leading actresses in Malayalam cinema. She starred opposite major stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal, delivering memorable performances in films such as Thazhvaram and Kauravar.

In a recent interview with 'Grihalakshmi', Anju Prabhakar recalled the story behind her casting in the iconic 1990s film Kauravar. Directed by Joshiy and written by Lohithadas, the film featured Mammootty in the lead role, supported by legendary actors like Thilakan and Murali.

Anju shared an interesting anecdote from the filming of Neelagiri, recalling Mammootty's surprised reaction when he saw her after a long gap. “When he saw me, he was shocked and asked, ‘Is this really you? Are you this grown-up now?’” This was a reference to their earlier film Azhagan, where Anju had initially been cast as the female lead. However, at that time, Mammootty had felt she was too young for the role and was replaced by actress Madhubala.

Anju further revealed that Mammootty, upon seeing her in Neelagiri, immediately felt regret over the casting decision in Azhagan. "He apologised to me and called director Joshiy, saying that I would be the female lead in his next film, Kauravar."

Anju shared that her casting in Kauravar was somewhat accidental, yet it turned out to be a timely and pivotal moment in her career. Her role in the film became a significant turning point in her journey in Malayalam cinema.

Anju’s collaboration with legendary actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal, and directors like Joshiy and Lohithadas continues to be celebrated as part of Malayalam cinema's golden era. (With inputs from Agencies)
