Madras High Court bars unauthorised commercial use of Kamal Haasan’s name, photo and “Ulaganayagan” tag.

Chennai: The Madras High Court has issued an order restraining the unauthorised commercial use of actor Kamal Haasan’s name and image. Haasan had filed a petition stating that a private firm in Chennai was selling T-shirts and shirts using his name, photograph and the epithet “Ulaganayagan” without his permission.
Hearing the matter on Monday, the bench of Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy imposed a ban on such usage. The court has also asked the company in question to file a response to the petition.
At the same time, the court stated that there is no restriction on the use of Kamal Haasan’s image in cartoons. The actor has been directed to publish notices in Tamil and English newspapers informing the public that no one may use his name or photograph without authorisation.
Further hearing of the case has been adjourned to February.
