Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films said that it will edit or remove the controversial line, while stressing that “people come above everything else.” Despite the row, the superhero film continues to earn praise from critics and audiences.

Thiruvananthapuram: Dulquer Salmaan’s production company, Wayfarer Films, has issued a public apology after a dialogue in its latest film ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ sparked outrage for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Kannada-speaking audiences.
In an official statement shared on Instagram, the banner said: “At Wayfarer Films, we place people above everything else. We deeply regret this oversight and assure you that no offence was intended. The dialogue in question will be removed/edited at the earliest. We sincerely apologise for the hurt caused and humbly request you to accept our apology.”
The controversy erupted over a line delivered by antagonist Inspector Nachiyappa Gowda, played by actor Sandy, which allegedly targeted Bengaluru city and its women.
The film, written and directed by Dominic Arun under the Wayfarer Films banner, stars Kalyani Priyadarshan in a superhero role alongside Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, and Sandy.
Released on August 28, 2025, ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ has otherwise received appreciation from critics and audiences alike.
The film has turned out to be a box office winner, drawing strong crowds ever since its release on August 28, 2025. It opened to packed theatres across Kerala and other South Indian states, with positive word of mouth helping it sustain momentum through the week. Industry trackers report that the movie has crossed impressive collection milestones within its first weekend, with trade analysts calling it one of the most successful Malayalam releases of the year. Blending a fresh superhero storyline with Dominic Arun’s stylish direction and Dulquer Salmaan’s production scale, ‘Lokah’ has managed to strike the right balance between commercial appeal and critical acclaim.
