Kozhikode: The reopening of the Apsara theatre after almost a year is a great relief for movie goers in the district. The iconic theatre, situated close to Kozhikode railway station, was functioning for 52 years before it ceased activities in May 2023. 

This theatre, which has long symbolized the cultural essence of Kozhikode, holds a special place in the hearts of Malabarians to cherish.

Listin Stephen's Magic Frames is the new owner of the theatre, which has been renamed Magic Frames Apsara. The 70mm theatre boasts 1013 seats, making it one of the biggest in Kerala.

The theatre would be opened to the public by April-May after maintenance works, said those close to theatre owners. 

The theatre, started by Thomman Joseph Purakkal, was inaugurated by versatile actors Prem Nazir and Sharada in 1971. At the time of the inauguration, Apsara, with its 70.70 mm screen, was advertised as Kerala's biggest air-conditioned theatre.
