New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear actor Kootickal Jayachandran’s anticipatory bail plea in a POCSO case on Wednesday. The proceedings follow a request from the actor’s counsel.

Meanwhile, the government has informed the Supreme Court that efforts are being made on behalf of the actor to intimidate the complainant in the case.

The anticipatory bail plea filed by Kootickal Jayachandran was initially listed before a bench headed by Justice B V Nagarathna. Senior advocate R Basant is expected to represent him, as informed by Jayachandran’s current counsel in court. Considering his availability, the lawyer requested that the plea be heard on Wednesday, a request which the Supreme Court accepted.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had stayed the arrest of Kootickal Jayachandran, directing that he should not be taken into custody until Monday. The interim relief was later extended until Wednesday.

The Kasaba police had registered a POCSO case against the actor based on allegations that he sexually abused a four-year-old girl. The complaint was filed by a relative of the child through the Child Protection Unit and subsequently forwarded to the police. A lookout notice was also issued against the actor.

The incident in question reportedly took place last year.
