Often you may stumble across an idea or a thought, a plot, a story, or even a character that could bring forth the creativity in you. It is exactly what happened in the case of Adithi Krishnadas, a 24-year-old animator from Kochi in turning a normal voice recording into a hilarious, and unique 12-minute animation movie ‘Kandittund’(‘Seen It’ in Malayalam) produced by Studio Eeksaurus in Mumbai.
‘Kandittund,’ narrates the story of an elderly who revisits the story of supernatural entities he had encountered in his life. In a hilarious yet humorous narration, the protagonist revisits the mythological urban legends– ranging from a creature that collects ripen mangoes, a trio of demon hitmen (Kuttichathan) who vandalize property in exchange for fresh fish to a disturbed spirit that yells in your ear till your blood curdles.
Suresh Eriyat, Adithi’s boss and founder of Eeksaurus Studio was the first to share the story of his father with her. He also showed her an audio recording of his father PNK Panicker speaking convincingly about the supernatural beings he had encountered in his life.
This hilarious audio paved the way for her to create a world of supernatural entities from scratch. The folklore behind each of these characters, in a dark and eerie setting coupled with the excellent sound design from Oscar winner Resul Pookutty, leaves the viewers awestruck from the start to the end.
The animation film was produced by Nilima Eriyat and had Vijaykumar along with Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty on its sound design. The short animation also won the Satoshi Kon Award For Excellence in Animation at Fantasia International Film Festival (FIFF) Awards 2021.

“I was excited to work on the project after hearing the story from Suresh Eriyat. Based on the recording, I created the world that somehow fits the narration of Mr PNK Panicker ideally,” Adithi Krishnadas, the director of the animation told mathrubhumi.com.
One of the more exciting aspects to execute was the Indian mannerisms and acting using simple character design and 2D animation. At the end of the day, it needed to have heart, simplicity, and fun. I can only hope that this is the take-away one gets from the film, she added.
