Thiruvananthapuram: In a great gesture, Kerala State Film Academy chairman Premkumar honoured sanitation workers at the Kerala International Film Festival, which is being conducted under the Green Protocol, eliminating the use of plastic. The recognition took place during the inauguration of a stall set up by the District Sanitation Mission as part of the ‘Garbage-free Kerala’ people’s campaign at Tagore Theatre.
Premkumar highlighted the selfless service of the sanitation workers and members of the Haritha Karma Sena in maintaining cleanliness around the festival venues and adhering to the Green Protocol.
The District Sanitation Mission’s stall aims to raise awareness about waste segregation and management. The stall features models of public toilets, waste management systems in model villages and organic waste composting. The core message conveyed is the idea of "Wealth from Waste”. A unique platform called ‘Waste Chat’ has also been introduced to facilitate open discussions on waste management.
During the event, Premkumar also released the poster for the Swachh Survekshan awareness campaign. Sanitation Mission Coordinator Arun Raj, Assistant Coordinator Suja P S and Programme Officer Babitha N C were also present on the occasion.
