New Delhi: In a surprising turn, actor Suriya's film Kanguva, released last year and received mixed response at the box office, has now made it onto the contenders' list for the 2025 Oscars.
Directed by Siruthai Siva, Kanguva marked Suriya's return to the big screen after a two-year break. However, the film was widely criticized on social media and didn't fare well at the box office. The sound quality of the movie sparked a heated debate online, with some viewers voicing concerns about the overwhelming noise.
However, to the surprise of many, it has now come to light that Surya's film has made it into the contenders' list for the Oscars. Film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan broke the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "BREAKING: Kanguva ENTERS Oscars 2025," along with the list of contenders and a poster of Suriya.
The tweet quickly went viral, prompting a wave of shocked reactions, with many users questioning the film's inclusion in the Oscars race. A user wrote on X, "Clear reason why India isn't getting any Oscars." "A user commented, "Is this a joke?."
