Born on February 24, 1927, Kamini Kaushal began her cinematic journey in 1946 with the film "Neecha Nagar." The film made history as the first Indian movie to win the Best Film award at the inaugural Cannes Film Festival, setting a milestone for Indian cinema that remains unmatched. "Neecha Nagar" is still the only Indian film to have received the prestigious Palme d'Or, solidifying Kamini Kaushal’s place in global film heritage.
Kaushal's illustrious career spanned several decades, earning her not just critical acclaim but also immense love from audiences. She worked with a host of celebrated actors and directors, leaving an indelible mark on Hindi cinema through her acting talent and graceful screen presence.

Her most celebrated performances as a lead heroine included roles in "Do Bhai" (1947), "Ziddi" (1948), "Shabnam" (1949), "Arzoo" (1950), "Paras" (1949), "Jhanjar" (1953), "Aabroo" (1956), "Bade Sarkar" (1957), "Jailor" (1958), "Night Club" (1958), and "Godaan" (1963). Her performance in "Biraj Bahu" (1954) earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 1956, establishing her as one of the finest actresses of her era.
By the 1960s, she transitioned to character roles with remarkable ease, becoming a fixture in numerous films. She appeared in seven films alongside Manoj Kumar, including "Shaheed" (1965), "Upkar" (1967), "Purab Aur Paschim" (1970), and "Roti Kapda Aur Makaan" (1974). She also worked with Rajesh Khanna in films like "Prem Nagar" (1974) and "Maha Chor" (1976).
In her later years, Kamini Kaushal remained active in cinema, appearing in box office blockbusters like "Chennai Express" (2013), where she received critical acclaim for her supporting role. Her performance in "Kabir Singh" (2019), where she played Shahid Kapoor's grandmother, earned her a Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Filmfare nomination.
