Actress Kalki Koechlin has opened up about the subtle and overt sexual harassment and casting couch experiences she has faced in and outside the film industry.

In a recent interview with Zoom, she spoke about how such incidents are often trivialised or normalised despite their long-term psychological impact.

Kalki began talking about her ordeal by recalling an incident when she was working as a promo girl for Nokia phones at the Cannes Film Festival as a student in London.

An Indian producer who knew someone related to her mother invited her to a screening of his film. Later, he also invited her to dinner.

When she inquired about the possibilities of working in film, Kalki said that he was very clear that if it was to happen, she had to spend time with him.

Kalki also recalled a similar experience after entering the film industry, which happened during an audition for a big-budget film in Mumbai. "Other time it happened when I went for an audition here for a film, and the producer said, 'You want to do this film? That's great, but I need to get to know you because it's a big launch. So it was basically the same, like, 'Come out, let's go out for dinner,' So then again I was like sorry, I don't want to waste your time or mine,'" she added.

Kalki was last seen in the Tamil romantic action film 'Nesippaya’ directed by Vishnuvardhan. She will next be seen in the English film ‘Emma and Angel’.
