Interestingly, Arun revealed that he was the last main actor to be roped into the film.

Arun Cherukavil, who made his cinematic debut under the direction of veteran filmmaker Fazil with Life is Beautiful, rose to prominence through his memorable role in the now ‘cult’ film 4 the People. Over the years, Arun has carved a space for himself in Malayalam cinema, appearing in a range of roles, both lead and supporting. Most recently, he has been seen delivering a compelling performance in Ronth, which has garnered positive reviews in theatres.
Speaking to The Cue Studio, Arun opened up about his experience with 4 the People, a film that turned into a surprise box office hit and continues to enjoy a strong fan following even today. Interestingly, Arun revealed that he was the last actor to be cast in the film.
“It was producer Seven Arts Mohan who brought me into the project,” Arun shared. “I received a call asking if I could come to director Jayaraj’s office in Ernakulam. When I arrived, Jayaraj sir wasn’t there yet. While waiting outside the office, I met another individual who was also waiting. I was introduced to him as Jassie — Jassie Gift, the music director of the film. That was the first time I met him. We didn’t talk much about the film, but we ended up going out for tea.”
Arun went on to recall that Jayaraj eventually arrived at the office and invited him inside, where his associate was also present — none other than director Blessy, who was assisting Jayaraj at the time. Arun was asked to deliver a couple of dialogues from the film as part of an informal audition.
“Shortly after, Jayaraj sir came over to me and said, ‘You must join the film tomorrow.’ That’s how I landed the role in 4 the People,” Arun reminisced.
The actor’s candid recollection sheds light on the spontaneous and serendipitous nature of casting in the film industry — a chance meeting, a quick audition, and a decision that would go on to define a significant moment in a cine artist’s career.
