Fans of MAMAMOO were left stunned after news surfaced suggesting that Solar (Kim Yong-sun), the group’s leader, may be enlisting in the military – an announcement that came not from her agency, but via a fan communication app. The unexpected notification sparked widespread confusion and excitement across online communities.

Shocking notice on fan app

According to Koreaboo, on October 10, users of the messaging and fan engagement app Fromm, where Solar maintains a membership, received a push notification indicating that her subscription service would soon be unavailable. The notice read:

“We sincerely thank all our members who subscribed to 'fromm SOLAR'. Due to the artist's enlistment in the military, we inform you that the 'fromm SOLAR' service will be temporarily suspended as of 2025. 10. 31 00:00 AM (KST). Please check the details below.”

The notification explained that the suspension was related to her military enlistment and confirmed that subscription sales had already ended. It also stated that services provided through the subscription would no longer be available to fans.

Fans react online

The unexpected announcement quickly went viral, with fans expressing shock, excitement, and disbelief on social media platforms. Many users speculated on the significance of the notice, with one commenting, “Women can serve voluntarily as officers, NCO’s, and take on other roles. Solar enlisting is a plot twist that seems to be true.”

Another added, “Who said only male idols enlist in Korea? Noooo, we're losing Solar to the Korean military again.”

A third post read, “To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Solar actually enlisted in the military. I mean, that's the only thing she didn't do yet, other than being a politician, probably. Jokes aside, I don't know who runs this company, but the fact that they're copy-and-paste emails is INSANE!”

While some fans celebrated the news as a historic moment for K-pop, others expressed caution, noting the possibility that the notice could be a mistake or a prank.

No official confirmation yet

As of now, RBW Entertainment, Solar’s management agency, has not released any statement regarding her potential enlistment. The lack of an official response has left fans in suspense, debating whether the notice reflects an actual enlistment or an unprecedented error.

Solar making K-pop history

If true, Solar’s enlistment would mark a rare instance of a female idol voluntarily joining the military in South Korea, where only men are required to serve for approximately 18 months. Women may enlist, but it is largely voluntary, making the possibility of Solar serving particularly noteworthy.
