Kochi: The Income Tax Department has served a notice to actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran in connection with payment issues regarding three films co produced by the actor. The IT notice requests clarification on specific aspects of his income declarations. The actor has been asked to respond to the notice by April 29.

According to sources, Prithviraj starred in three films—Gold, Jana Gana Mana, and Kaduva. However, he did not receive payment in his capacity as an actor. Instead, he reportedly charged fees under the role of a co-producer.

It is understood that Prithviraj earned approximately ₹40 crore for his role as a co-producer. Authorities are now seeking details related to this.

Reports indicate that the tax obligations for earnings as an actor are higher than those for a co-producer. The department has asked Prithviraj to clarify these matters for accurate assessment.

All three films in question were released in 2022. The Income Tax Department clarified that a previous explanation had already been sought regarding the income earned from these projects.

A fresh notice has now been issued as part of the financial year-end review in March. The notice was sent via e-mail, instructing Prithviraj to respond either directly or through a representative.

Income Tax officials have described this as a routine procedure and part of their standard verification process.

This follows the ED raid on the establishments of Gokulam Gopalan, one of the producers of Prithviraj’s latest directorial ‘L2: Empuraan’.
