New Delhi: Veteran actor Neena Gupta continues to redefine what it means to age with confidence and self-love. In a recent conversation with India Today, she opened up about how embracing herself, dressing up, and feeling good has nothing to do with age.

“I romance with my clothes,” Neena said, describing how her relationship with herself has evolved over time. “I feel great when I dress up. Back in the day, I’d never worn a bikini; the household that I came from didn’t have that culture in Delhi. But when I moved to Bombay and lived alone, I’d wear a bikini in my bathroom, stand in front of the mirror, and feel happy; there were no mobile phones then. That, too, is romance. Romancing yourself. But feeling good has no age limit.”

Now in her late 60s, Neena Gupta is a shining example of confidence and grace. She believes romance is more than attraction. “I agree, I still feel romantic,” she said. “Romance is not just about sex or attraction. It’s about feeling good.”

Reflecting on her life, she shared the three most defining moments: moving to Mumbai, becoming a mother to Masaba, and more recently, becoming a grandmother. Being a grandmother — that’s amazing. There are no words to express it,” she said.

Talking about her upcoming film Metro... In Dino, which releases on July 4, she shared her admiration for director Anurag Basu. “I didn’t even know he would offer me something. But when he did, I told him — don’t even tell me what my role is, I’ll do it. That’s how much I wanted to work with him, especially after Life in a... Metro.,” she said.

At this stage of her career, Neena says she makes choices based on simplicity and instinct. “Now what matters to me is script and yes, money too. But first, the script,” she laughed. “If the role is good, I do it — even if I don’t know the director. In fact, I’m doing a film right now — I don’t know much about the director. But the role is very good, so I said yes.”

She believes in trusting her instincts and staying balanced.
