Director Jeo Baby voiced his displeasure over the cancellation of a programme after he was invited as a guest there. He was invited to be part of a discussion in association with the film club of Farook College, Kozhikode. In a video shared on social media, Jeo said that when he reached Kozhikode to participate in the event, the college authorities called to inform him about the cancellation of the programme.
Jeo Baby said that he was insulted because the student union of the college reportedly announced non-cooperation as they believed the director’s views to conflict with the morals upheld by the college. He also stated that he would pursue legal action in this matter. ‘
The film club scheduled a talk on ‘Subtle Politics of Modern Day Malayalam Cinema’ on December 5. Jeo said that the coordinator who informed him of the cancellation refused to give a concrete explanation for the same. He contacted the Principal via email and WhatsApp but did not receive a response, Jeo said. It was after this that he received a forwarded letter from the student’s union regarding the issue.
Jeo said that he was humiliated by this blatant cancellation. I need to know what kind of ideas these educational institutions or student unions put forth, he added.
