Kozhikode: Despite numerous safety warnings, reckless driving during celebrations continues to be a common occurrence. In Kozhikode, students of Farook College took to the streets in celebration of Onam, using a public road outside the campus to perform dangerous stunts with vehicles. This public display led the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to file a case after footage of the event circulated on social media.

The incident, which took place on Wednesday, showed students engaging in hazardous driving practices on a busy road, posing a risk to other motorists and pedestrians. The students were seen driving luxury cars and SUVs, sitting on top of vehicles and door sills, all in the name of celebration. The MVD took swift action citing the dangers posed to public safety.

The students used a variety of vehicles, including Volkswagen Polo, Audi, Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner, some of which were modified. The MVD has now initiated an inquiry to determine whether those driving the vehicles had valid licences. Strict action is expected, especially for those without a licence, and those found guilty could face licence cancellations or other penalties.

In addition to checking licences, the MVD is also considering seizing the vehicles used in the reckless display. The celebration blocked traffic in the area, further disrupting the normal flow of the road.
