Saani Kaayidham, directed by Arun Matheswaran and released in 2022, starred Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan in the lead roles. The film was hailed for its powerful performances and received widespread critical acclaim.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Keerthy, the lead actor, shared how she became part of the project. “See, when Saani Kaayidham was offered to me, I asked Arun — why me? In fact, I often ask my directors this question when they trust me with roles that I find a tad difficult to envision myself in.”

For those unfamiliar, the Keerthy Suresh–Selvaraghavan starrer was a revenge drama, raw, gritty, and filled with bloodshed — offering an unfiltered cinematic experience. “To begin with, I always wanted to work with Arun. I had watched his first film Rocky, and after hearing the story of Saani Kaayidham, I was sure the experience would be transformative,” said the National Award-winning actor.

Talking further, Keerthy added, “There was a look test for the film, and as part of it, we rehearsed a scene involving Selvaraghavan sir and me. Arun was casually explaining the shot — he said, ‘Now, you’ll enter the room, stab, and then light the body with kerosene.’ I was like, hold on, give me some time! I had to digest all of that — it was a completely new experience for me.”

The film showcased Keerthy in a rugged, never-seen-before avatar, and she dominated the screen with her intense portrayal of Ponni. The brother–sister relationship between Ponni and Sangayya (played by actor-director Selvaraghavan) was both intriguing and emotionally shattering.

Keerthy’s deep connection with her role was evident when she said, “Saani Kaayidham is one of those projects where I can truly say — I don’t know whether it’s right, but I performed with my whole heart.”

The actor’s candid confessions have left fans eagerly waiting to witness more of her magic and mojo on the silver screen.
