Gokulam Gopalan, the prominent producer and film industry stalwart, has revealed the heartfelt reason behind his decision to join the production of Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal. The film, set for a global release on March 27, is produced under the banners of Sree Gokulam Movies, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Lyca Productions by Gopalan, Antony Perumbavoor, and Subhaskaran.

Gokulam Gopalan described his choice to back Empuraan as a decision guided by fate and admiration. "My love for Lal and Antony made me take this decision," Gopalan shared with the media. "I see this as a divine decree."

Gopalan explained the motivation behind his involvement, saying, "A film is chosen based on its content and audience aspirations, not the budget. When I saw parts of Empuraan, I felt it was one of the best films in Malayalam cinema, and Prithviraj has made it so beautifully. I wanted to be part of this project to bring such a great film to audiences on time without any issues."

Empuraan has already made history in Indian cinema by breaking advance booking records. Since bookings opened on March 21 at 9 am, over 800,000 tickets have been sold in India through BookMyShow alone, setting a new benchmark in the industry. The film also achieved the incredible feat of selling nearly 100,000 tickets within its first hour of booking.

Written by Murali Gopi, Empuraan will be the first Malayalam film released in IMAX, with global screenings starting at 6 am IST on March 27.

Gokulam Gopalan's Sree Gokulam Movies is handling the Tamil Nadu distribution, while Sree Venkateswara Creations, owned by Dil Raju, distributes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. AA Films, led by Anil Thadani, is managing the North Indian release, and Karnataka distribution is under Hombale Films, a major Kannada production and distribution company.

Financially, Empuraan has already grossed around ₹35 crore globally through pre-sales—₹10 crore from Kerala and over ₹20 crore from international markets. The film is also achieving significant advance bookings in the Rest of India, with record-breaking openings in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jerome Flynn, Baiju, Saikumar, Andrea Tivadar, Abhimanyu Singh, and many more. It will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.

The production team includes co-producers V.C. Praveen and Baiju Gopalan, executive producer Krishnamurthy, cinematographer Sujith Vasudev, music composer Deepak Dev, editor Akhilesh Mohan, art director Mohandas, action choreographer Stunt Silva, and creative director Nirmal Sahadev.
