As Mollywood actors continue to expose the realities of the casting couch, actor Gokul Suresh has revealed that he lost a film role after speaking out against the practice. During a recent media interaction addressing allegations against actor Nivin Pauly, Suresh clarified that challenges in the film industry are not confined to women alone.
Suresh stated that it is a misconception to believe that only women face hardships in the film industry. He highlighted that actors who oppose the casting couch may also lose opportunities. Reflecting on his early career, he said, “I faced a similar situation at the beginning. Although I addressed the issue directly with the person involved, I ultimately lost that film.”
Further speaking about it, Suresh added that social media has made it easier for the public to become aware of such issues within the industry. He expressed concern that the allegations against Nivin Pauly and the alleged victim illustrate that both men and women can be affected by these problems.
He stressed the importance of supporting genuine victims but also voiced frustration over what he perceives as the wrongful targeting of innocent individuals like Nivin Pauly. “The police and courts should provide clarity on such matters,” he stated.
Suresh also criticised those who bring forward false allegations, suggesting they should be dealt with harshly. He further pointed out that these issues are not unique to Malayalam cinema but are prevalent across other film industries as well, often on a much larger scale. He also noted that such problems are occurring in various industries, not just in cinema.
