HBO released the first footage and images from the long-awaited third season of "Euphoria" on Friday, offering viewers their initial glimpse at the Emmy-winning drama's five-year time jump.

The brief teaser, embedded in HBO's 2026 programming slate announcement, shows Zendaya's Rue Bennett navigating a dangerous new chapter. "There's no turning back. A few years after high school, I don't know if life was exactly what I wished," Rue narrates over scenes of her dancing at a party, alone in a church, and running while constantly looking over her shoulder. The footage concludes with Rue entering a nightclub where a man, played by new cast member Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, confronts her: "You walk up into my house, and you don't even introduce yourself".

Five Years Forward

Season 3, premiering in April 2026, picks up five years after the conclusion of Season 2, with the former East Highland High School students now navigating adult life. Creator Sam Levinson revealed details at an HBO Max presentation in London on December 3, explaining that the time jump was necessary to avoid casting adults as high school students.

"We basically pick up Rue south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie, trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off," Levinson said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Laurie, portrayed by Martha Kelly, is the drug dealer introduced in Season 2.

Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) are now engaged and living in the suburbs, with Levinson confirming they will marry in what he promises will be "an unforgettable night". Meanwhile, Jules (Hunter Schafer) attends art school, Maddy (Alexa Demie) works at a Hollywood talent agency with side hustles, and Lexi (Maude Apatow) serves as an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone.

New Faces, Notable Absences

The season introduces multiple new cast members, including Akinnuoye-Agbaje as a "ruthless kingpin," alongside Stone, Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, and Natasha Lyonne. Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer joins Labrinth to score the season.

Storm Reid will not return as Rue's sister Gia, nor will Barbie Ferreira reprise her role as Kat. Angus Cloud, who played beloved drug dealer Fezco, died in July 2023 at age 25.

The season arrives more than four years after Season 2's premiere in early 2022, with delays attributed to scheduling conflicts among the now-A-list cast, the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes, and Levinson's other projects.
