The re-edited version of Mohanlal’s 'L2: Empuraan' will face a delay in reaching theatres. Although the editing and censoring processes have been completed, the release has been postponed due to pending technical formalities. According to theatre owners, the revised version of the film is now expected to be released by Thursday.

The film underwent re-editing following widespread protests from the Sangh Parivar. After the modifications, censoring was completed on Sunday night, and the film received its certification. Reports indicate that around three minutes of footage, including a scene depicting the rape of a pregnant woman, was removed. In addition, the name of the villain character, Bajrangi, was changed to Balraj.

In an unusual development, the film’s producers themselves requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove certain portions. Following intense backlash and protests from the Sangh Parivar, the CBFC intervened to expedite the process. The modifications were carried out at the CBFC office in Chitranjali Studio, Thiruvananthapuram.

Both the re-editing and censoring were conducted on a holiday. The controversy surrounding the film had sparked widespread protests and complaints by the right wing, even at the national level.

The RSS mouthpiece had openly criticised Mohanlal and Prithviraj, which was followed by the producers approaching the censor board to remove parts of the film. In response, the CBFC took urgent action, ensuring that the modifications were completed over the weekend.
