Responding to the controversy surrounding the film Empuraan, actress Sheela said that the movie only portrays real events and that the re-editing was part of its marketing strategy.

“People only throw stones at trees that bear fruit. Empuraan is a film Prithviraj made without any ulterior motives. The more people talk about it, the more free publicity the film gets,” Sheela said at a press conference.

Meanwhile, amid the controversy, the re-edited version of Empuraan hit theatres today. The revised version has been released with a scene of 2 minutes and 8 seconds from the initial cut removed.

Empuraan has become a major talking point across the country, especially for breaking records. The film grossed Rs 67 crore worldwide on its opening day, setting a record for the highest single-day opening for any Indian film this year. It also became the first Malayalam film to achieve this milestone. Within 48 hours of its release, Empuraan entered the Rs 100 crore club.
