Indian television producer, Ekta Kapoor spoke about the importance of women’s leadership and safety in the workplace. Alongside actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and director Hansal Mehta, Kapoor addressed the pressing issue of women’s safety in professional settings, particularly in light of the recent Justice Hema Committee Report.

During the trailer launch of her latest production 'The Buckingham Murders', Kapoor emphasized that the safety of women is not confined to the entertainment industry but is a broader workplace concern.

"Women and their safety is not just an industry issue, it’s any woman at workplace issue. We take this very seriously. A lot of women now have to lead so that a lot of women can join forces," she stated.

Kapoor highlighted the necessity for women to take the lead in creating safer work environments. "As I said, the report will come and we will read more about it. But a conscious effort to keep a safe environment for women at any place at work – a big part of it will be women leading professional jobs. And I think that needs to start happening. It's still a very slanted place," she added.

The producer also discussed the importance of shifting power dynamics in the workplace. "We have to change the agency from men to women and equalize the agency. A lot of places we need women on the top and at least running companies and for that women also have to make an initiative," Kapoor said.

In light of the Hema Committee report, which has brought to the fore issues of sexual harassment in the Kerala film industry, Kapoor underscored the need for systemic change. The report has led to public allegations from several women actors, including a Bengali actress, against prominent figures in Malayalam cinema.

Director Hansal Mehta, who was also present at the event, supported Kapoor’s stance. He asserted, "It is up to men. This responsibility is on the men. The onus is on the men to take the initiative to ensure that this equality and safety is maintained. I think it is about time we own up and we look at safety in the eye."
