Thiruvananthapuram: “My son was my life. His demise took away every celebration. I never intended to celebrate my 84th birthday. However, when the Foundation people insisted on the same, I directed them to hold the celebrations at an apt place. When they said the venue is Sree Chithra Home, I agreed,” an emotional Sreekumaran Thampi said on the occasion of his sathabhishekam (84th birthday, after witnessing one thousand full moons in his lifetime)
The programme was jointly conducted by the Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation and the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy at Sree Chitra Home Poor Home.
Many dignitaries came together at the programme which was inaugurated by Minister V Sivankutti. Foundation president G Jyasekharan Nair presided over the function. ISRO chairman Dr S Somanath distributed the scholarships to students of the Sree Chitra Home. Clothes were distributed among the children under the auspices of Jyothis Central School, Thiruvananthapuram.
UDF, LDF, and BJP candidates Shashi Tharoor, Pannyan Raveendran and Rajeev Chandrasekhar respectively were also present besides former Speaker M Vijayakumar and Kerala Chalachitra Academy Secretary C Ajoy among other dignitaries.
The guests returned only after having a birthday lunch with Thampi.
