Dr Mary George accuses prominent actor of coaxing college girls into film roles

Thiruvananthapuram: Dr Mary George, professor and senior economist, has made serious allegations against a prominent actor, claiming that in the 1980s, female students at Women's College, Thiruvananthapuram, were being coaxed into film roles. According to her, the actor, who had major political connections, used to take young women in his car.

Mary George, speaking to Mathrubhumi News, revealed that this issue was brought to her attention by her co-teachers. They had noticed that an expensive car would frequently park outside the college gate, and some students would get into the vehicle. Teachers, after confirming the situation, reported it to the college principal. The principal also observed the situation and identified which girls were involved and who was taking them. However, the principal felt that intervening was futile and chose not to act further.

Mary George expressed regret that she did not become aware of these issues sooner, as she would have intervened if she had known. She mentioned that the actor in question is still active in the film industry today.

Meanwhile, following the release of the Hema Committee Report, several female artists have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
