San Diego: The ‘Dexter’ universe is set to grow as the beloved serial killer makes a dramatic return. At Comic-Con, showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed that Showtime is launching a new sequel series titled ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, which will continue from where the previous sequel, ‘Dexter: New Blood’, left off, with the main character’s fate in question.

Michael C. Hall, who first portrayed Dexter Morgan in 2006, will reprise his iconic role. His surprise appearance at the Comic-Con panel thrilled fans before the new series was even announced. While Phillips remained tight-lipped about the specifics, it was confirmed that Dexter will be brought back to life in ‘Resurrection’.

This news came alongside the promotion of ‘Dexter: Original Sin’, a prequel series that will delve into Dexter's younger years, played by Patrick Gibson. “This weekend there were a lot of surprises," Gibson said in an interview with The Associated Press. “They set up the characters in season one to have such rich inner life and so much complexity that even with eight seasons, there’s so much more to explore.”

Hall will narrate ‘Original Sin’, providing insights into the younger Dexter’s thoughts. The prequel is set to debut in December 2024, while ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is scheduled to begin filming in January 2025, with a planned release in summer 2025.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience at the packed venue on Friday. ‘Original Sin’ also features Christian Slater, who expressed his excitement about exploring new facets of the ‘Dexter’ story.

“To see Dexter becoming Dexter — it's really cool to see how Clyde Phillips has handled that and the writing is just so good and so rich, it's fun to do,” Slater told a news agency.

The original ‘Dexter’ series, which aired from 2006 to 2013, earned Hall five Emmy nominations and became one of Showtime’s most popular shows with a dedicated fan base.
