Actor Vijay Sethupathi has spoken warmly about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay while promoting his upcoming Tamil film Baththa, recalling a personal interaction that left him pleasantly surprised.

Vijay Sethupathi and Vijay have previously shared the screen in the 2021 blockbuster Master.

Sethupathi remembered wishing Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay on his birthday. What he did not expect was a call from Vijay himself thanking him for the gesture.

“I wished Sanjay on his birthday. He called me and said, ‘Friend, thank you so much. He was very happy.’ I didn’t expect that because he’s a big superstar, and I was surprised that Sanjay liked me,” he said.

The actor also recalled visiting the sets of Jana Nayagan, where he met Vijay. Speaking about the encounter, Sethupathi affectionately described Vijay as a “cute fellow”.

“I told him, ‘Hey, how lucky you are to have such a big star in your house?’” he said.

Sethupathi also recalled Jason Sanjay conveying a message to him through actor Rohan. “Tell him that I am sending him a hug,” Sethupathi further recounted.

Sethupathi is now busy promoting Baththa, his upcoming Tamil film, as he gears up for its release.

Baththa is an upcoming Tamil-language action drama directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan and starring Vijay Sethupathi and Lijomol Jose. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, the film features Sethupathi in a rugged avatar as a feared ruffian.

The film, which is set to release on October 1, 2026, has music by Sai Abhyankkar and is presented by Atlee. Baththa marks the third collaboration between Sethupathi and Tharaneetharan after Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi.
