Kochi: The Ernakulam District Court has banned the production of films under the 'Minnal Murali Universe' by including the characters of the Tovino Thomas film 'Minnal Murali'. The court's intervention comes after the announcement of 'Detective Ujjwalan' starring Dhyan Srinivasan.
After the superhero film Minnal Murali, Detective Ujwalan is the upcoming film of Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU). The action of the District Court is based on the complaint filed by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew, screenwriters of Minnal Murali. The court issued an order to WCU citing copyright violation.
The notification says that the copyright policies regarding the movie 'Minnal Murali' should not be violated until further orders. The court order was issued to the producers of 'Detective Ujjwalan', Sophia Paul, Netflix India, Amar Chitra Katha, Spirit Media and the film directors Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G.
The title teaser of the film was released on September 3. The teaser had references to places and characters from Minnal Murali. After the release of the teaser, the discussion on social media became heated about the film being part of the 'Minnal Murali' universe.
