Thiruvananthapuram: In a serious turn of events, all police cases registered based on statements in the Hema Committee report are being formally closed. This decision is being taken as the individuals who gave statements have expressed no interest in pursuing the cases further.
A total of 35 cases had been registered by the Special Investigation Team. Of these, 21 were previously dropped. The remaining 14 will also be closed, and reports will be submitted to the respective courts within this month.
Following the controversy surrounding the Hema Committee report, which was appointed to study issues within the Malayalam film industry, a few individuals raised allegations of sexual harassment through social media and other means. Related to this, 40 cases were registered across various police stations.
However, 30 cases in which charge-sheets have been filed, including those involving actors Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Siddique and director Ranjith, will continue.
