Director turned actor Basil Joseph, revealed that the most challenging shot he has ever executed was the opening scene of his 2017 movie ‘Godha’. In an interview with Club FM Malayalam, Basil discussed the complexities involved in filming the scene, which showcases an old-fashioned wrestling match.
He explained, “The opening shot of 'Godha' was the toughest for me. It features a sequence where all the characters have to remain perfectly still, like mannequins, which adds to the difficulty.”
The scene required the use of a camera positioned high above, necessitating precise coordination. Basil noted that if any actor moved even slightly, they would have to reshoot, requiring the team to lift cinematographer Vishnu on a 110-foot crane. “We used an industrial crane for this shot. If anyone in the scene shifted, the entire process had to start over,” he said.
The team began rehearsals in the afternoon, followed by shooting later in the day. Despite their efforts, they struggled to capture the desired shot. “No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't get the shot right. Eventually, we managed to film it just as the light began to break on the horizon,” Basil added.
The film featured a stellar cast, including Tovino Thomas Wamiqa Gabbi, Aju Varghese, and Renji Panicker, contributing to its success and critical acclaim.
