Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has lent his voice to the iconic character He-Man in the official Malayalam version of the upcoming live-action fantasy film Masters of the Universe, becoming the first Malayalam actor to collaborate with Hollywood studios Sony Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios for a major international release.

Sharing an emotional note on Instagram, Unni Mukundan said dubbing for the legendary character he admired as a child felt like a full-circle moment in life.

“As a 90’s kid, He-Man was never just a character to me… he was strength, courage and heroism itself.

Today, life has come full circle as I become the Malayalam voice of the very hero I worshipped growing up. Standing inside the dubbing studio and saying…

“By the Power of Grayskull… I Have The Power!”

…was deeply emotional and surreal.

For a moment, I wasn’t an actor anymore… I was that little boy again, lost in the magic of He-Man.

Dreams truly do come true.

Watch Masters of the Universe in theatres on June 5. Enjoy the Malayalam Trailer,” he wrote on Instagram.

The actor also recalled that, like every child who grew up in the 1990s, He-Man was far more than just a cartoon figure for him and symbolised courage, justice and invincible strength. Unni revealed that while dubbing certain sequences of the film, he became emotional and momentarily forgot he was an actor, immersing himself once again in the magical universe of He-Man.

Directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and David Callaham, the film is based on Mattel’s globally popular “Masters of the Universe” franchise and serves as the second live-action adaptation after the 1987 cult classic.

Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam/He-Man, alongside Camila Mendes, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Kristen Wiig, Morena Baccarin and Idris Elba in key roles.

The film follows Prince Adam as he returns to Eternia to embrace his destiny as He-Man and protect his kingdom from the evil Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.

After years of development delays and changes in studios, directors and casting, the film eventually moved to Amazon MGM Studios in 2024, with Travis Knight taking over as director. Principal photography took place in London between January and June 2025.

“Masters of the Universe” premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18, 2026, and is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5.
