Speculation around BTS member Jimin and actress Song Da Eun has again taken over online spaces after a cryptic video and a resurfaced interview reignited years-old dating rumours, prompting the singer’s agency to finally step in with a statement.

The old comments

A post that recently gained traction on Instiz highlighted part of Jimin’s 2023 Weverse Magazine interview. In it, long-time producer Pdogg discussed the making of “Who,” a track on Jimin’s solo album Muse. Pdogg explained that the original plan was for a serenade-style single but revealed that Jimin found the theme difficult to connect with.

According to Koreaboo, the producer recalled, “Our plan was to follow that song with the lead single and write it as a serenade, but Jimin was having trouble relating to it. He asked himself, ‘Am I even capable of loving someone?’ and that question led to the creation of ‘Who.’ The album is about looking for some imaginary woman, but ‘Who’ is about the reality of feeling lonely and melancholy, and asking yourself where the person for you is, which is why we made it the very last track.”

Fans quickly tied the comment to ongoing rumours, debating whether it conflicted with or supported speculation about Jimin’s personal life at the time.

The issue

The renewed buzz stemmed from a short video shared by Song Da Eun, which viewers believed showed Jimin recognising her outside an elevator at what was claimed to be his Seoul apartment. Online discussion intensified as both remained silent, while previous posts by Song, some allegedly taken at Jimin’s residence, resurfaced.

Song has often pushed back against such claims. Back in 2023, she wrote, “Please take your questions about a third party’s business somewhere else. I’m in my right mind. Don’t threaten me about how scary the fandom is or accuse me of things I could be sued for.”

Earlier this year, she launched legal action against those linking her both to the Burning Sun scandal and to Jimin. “There’s a reason I haven’t posted on my feed for months. Don’t start rumors saying I’ve become the accused. Now I’m even more eager to catch them,” she said in April 2025. “Everything’s my fault? Burning Sun? Escort girl? Fake news? That’s not me. I’m not the accused,” she added.

Insiders later told Allkpop that the video circulating was not recent. “They were briefly involved in the past. Most of the photos and videos Song Da Eun uploaded were taken back then,” one source said. Another added, “The exact timeline of their relationship is unclear, but it’s certain they are not together now. Jimin has been serving in the military since 2023.”

Agency response

Following days of growing chatter, Hybe finally issued a statement confirming parts of the speculation while shutting down current dating claims. “Our company has refrained from making any statements until now in order to respect Jimin’s private life as well as the individual being mentioned in relation to it.

However, as speculative reports concerning the artist’s personal life have continued to surface and groundless rumors have been circulating, we find it unavoidable to clarify the bare minimum facts.

The artist and the individual in question were once acquainted with mutual affection in the past, but that was several years ago, and they are not in a relationship at present.

We ask that you refrain from making reckless speculations about their private lives. We earnestly request that you also refrain from any actions that could cause harm to the individual who is being mentioned alongside the artist.” 

Fans divided

Some BTS fans welcomed the agency’s clarity, saying they would continue to support Jimin regardless. Others criticised him for staying quiet for so long, while some argued that an artist’s creative expressions should never be taken as a literal reflection of their personal life.
