In a great recognition for India, the Hindi film Santosh has been announced as Britain's official entry for the 2025 Oscars. Directed by Sandhya Suri, 'Santosh' is a police investigative thriller that has garnered attention for its gripping storyline and strong performances.

The film features talented actors Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar in lead roles. It has already made waves in the film circuit, having been screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The selection was made by BAFTA, underscoring the film's impact and quality.

This announcement comes just two days after Laapataa Ladies was chosen as India's official entry for the Oscars, marking a notable moment for Hindi cinema on the global stage. Santosh was selected for its wide release throughout the UK, showcasing its appeal beyond Indian audiences.

The film is produced by a team that includes Mike Goodridge, James Bowsher, Balthasar de Gani, and Alan McAlex. With its compelling narrative and international recognition, Santosh is all set to make a mark at the upcoming Oscars.

Meanwhile, Indian film  ‘Laapataa Ladies’ contended alongside 29 film including names such as Animal, Kill, Kalki 2898 AD, Srikanth, Chandu Champion, Joram, Maidaan, Sam Bahadur, Article 370, the Malayalam film Aattam, which was feted with the National Award for Best Feature Film this year and Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, a Cannes winner.

Headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua, a 13-member selection jury decided on Laapataa Ladies, starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. Laapataa Ladies is produced by Rao, Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande.

The Oscars are set to be held in March 2025.
