‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer is out, Chris Evans' return steals the show

Marvel Studios has finally released the first full trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, giving fans their biggest look yet at the MCU's most ambitious crossover since ‘Avengers: Endgame’. While Robert Downey Jr.'s transformation into the terrifying Doctor Doom is a major highlight, it's Chris Evans' unexpected return as Steve Rogers that delivers the trailer's biggest surprise.

The trailer opens with Doctor Doom, played by Downey Jr., emerging as the MCU's next great villain. Cloaked in his iconic green hood and metal mask, Doom sets a multiversal war in motion, bringing together heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men films, and the Fantastic Four universe for an unprecedented showdown.

Patrick Stewart returns as Professor Charles Xavier, warning that an unimaginable threat is approaching. From there, the trailer races through several major crossovers, teasing battles fans have long imagined. Shang-Chi clashes with Gambit, Mystique disguises herself as Yelena Belova before confronting her, Wakanda's forces go to war against Namor's Talokan army, and the Fantastic Four meet the Thunderbolts for the first time. Tom Hiddleston also briefly appears as Loki in his TVA attire.

The trailer's standout moment arrives when Thor tells the assembled heroes they will need "a miracle." That miracle turns out to be Steve Rogers, making his first appearance since ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In one of the trailer's biggest crowd-pleasing moments, Evans' Captain America once again wields Mjölnir, confirming a return fans have been waiting years to see.

Thor also takes centre stage emotionally, rallying the heroes before facing Doctor Doom himself. The closing sequence makes one thing clear, Doom is unlike any villain the Avengers have faced before, overpowering Thor with ease and establishing himself as a threat beyond even Thanos.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film marks the brothers' first MCU project since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The screenplay is written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, with Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz producing.

The ensemble cast features Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Channing Tatum, Rebecca Romijn, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, and many more.

Notably absent from the trailer are Spider-Man and Wolverine, both widely expected to appear in the film but seemingly being saved for future reveals.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ releases exclusively in theatres on December 18, 2026, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, arriving in December 2027.
