Marvel Studios has officially dropped the X-Men teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, marking the return of fan-favourite characters from the original X-Men movies.

The minute-long clip opens with Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) facing each other over a chessboard. McKellen delivers a grim reflection on mortality, stating: “Death comes for us all. That’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t, ‘Are you prepared to die?’ The question is, ‘Who will you be when you close your eyes?’”

The teaser then shifts as James Marsden’s Cyclops tears off his visor, releasing his classic red optic beam amid the burning X-Mansion — a nod to the original comics’ aesthetics. The footage suggests a massive battle unfolding, possibly involving Doctor Doom and Sentinels, as leaked set photos had hinted.

The teaser is part of a promotional strategy in cinemas attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash. Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is slated for a December 18, 2026, release, positioning it as Marvel’s Christmas blockbuster.

Fans will also see other original X-Men cast members reprising their roles, including Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), alongside Stewart, McKellen, and Marsden. The teaser appears to draw inspiration from the 90s X-Men animation and comic designs, while the narrative hints at universe-threatening stakes, echoing Avengers: Infinity War’s opening with Thanos.

Speculation is rife that Cyclops and the X-Men might team up with the Avengers against Doctor Doom or face near-total annihilation, creating anticipation for the follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. For fans of the mutants, the teaser delivers a comic-accurate Cyclops and promises nostalgia, spectacle, and high stakes for Marvel’s most ambitious crossover yet.
