Marvel has released the first teaser for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, officially confirming Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers.

Marvel Studios has released the first teaser for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, confirming the comeback of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, the original Captain America. The teaser, initially screened in cinemas alongside ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, was officially uploaded on Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, ending months of speculation over Evans’ involvement in the next Avengers instalment.
A quiet setting, a major reveal
The teaser opens on a serene farm landscape, where Steve Rogers is seen riding a motorcycle toward a remote home as a soft piano version of the Avengers theme plays. Evans’ character – last seen aged and retired in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ – appears younger once again, wearing a blue helmet reminiscent of his Captain America suit.
The clip then shows Steve holding a newborn baby, hinting at a new chapter in his story. The teaser concludes with the words, “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday”, followed by a countdown timer set to expire exactly one year before the film’s release on December 18, 2026.
The Russo Brothers shared the teaser on Instagram, writing, “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this…”
Marvel fans were quick to draw parallels between the farmhouse in the teaser and the home featured in the closing moments of ‘Endgame’, where Steve chose to spend his life with Peggy Carter after completing his mission to return the Infinity Stones.
Captain America’s journey so far
Steve Rogers was last seen in the MCU as an elderly man in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, passing on his iconic Vibranium shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). After completing his time-travel assignment to restore the Infinity Stones, Steve returned to reunite with Peggy, ending his arc on a poignant note.
The new teaser signals that his role in ‘Doomsday’ will be substantial, not just a fleeting cameo, with visual cues suggesting an important narrative thread centred around him.
A massive ensemble returns
Chris Evans is not the only familiar face making a comeback. Robert Downey Jr will appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, though not as Tony Stark. Instead, he will portray Doctor Doom, the central antagonist of the multiverse-spanning storyline – a dramatic shift for the actor who embodied Iron Man for more than a decade.
The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and more.
Several characters from the X-Men universe – including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Rebecca Romijn – will also join the MCU through the upcoming film.
Release date and what’s next
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is slated to release worldwide on 18 December 2026. Marvel is expected to roll out more character-driven teasers in the coming months, including one centred on Thor, as anticipation builds for the franchise’s next major crossover event.
