The year has witnessed a plethora of film releases in Kerala, with a significant number of them achieving remarkable success at the box office and garnering praise for their artistic merits.
However, it is impossible to overlook the fact that a considerable portion of these films did not showcase female actors in prominent roles. As a result, numerous individuals have initiated discussions on social media platforms regarding the lack of female representation in Malayalam cinema.
Addressing the matter, director Anjali Menon recently posed a question on Instagram, that reads, 'Where are the women in Malayalam Cinema?'. She also expressed her appreciation to the media for highlighting this concern.
The absence of strong female protagonists in recent successful films such as 'Aavesham' and 'Manjummel Boys' has led to numerous individuals questioning the decision of filmmakers to neglect female representation in movies. However, some contend that the determination of the character's gender and type in a film lies solely in the hands of the script and the storyline.
