Sources close to the actor confirmed that noted Tamil filmmaker A L Vijay will helm the 90-minute documentary

Chennai: Actor Ajith Kumar’s remarkable journey on the racing circuit is set to be chronicled in a feature-length docu-film that will release in theatres on May 1, 2026, coinciding with his birthday.
Sources close to the actor confirmed that noted Tamil filmmaker A L Vijay will helm the 90-minute documentary, which aims to inspire young people to chase long-held dreams often sidelined by life’s pressures.
“Many youngsters abandon their ambitions as life moves on. This film is meant to reignite that spark and encourage them to pursue what they truly love,” a source associated with the project said.
Beyond tracing Ajith’s personal journey, the docu-film also seeks to bring motorsport closer to the masses in India, a sport still widely perceived as accessible only to the affluent.
“Cricket too was once seen as an elite sport until Kapil Dev led India to the 1983 World Cup victory. We hope this film can play a similar role in popularising motorsport in the country,” the source added.
Director Vijay has reportedly captured high-octane race footage from Malaysia, along with behind-the-scenes moments such as strategy discussions, team meetings, practice sessions and Ajith’s rigorous preparation. Upcoming races in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will also be filmed and included in the documentary.
The film will be screened in theatres in a traditional two-half format, with each segment running for 45 minutes. An extended version is planned for release on an OTT platform at a later date.
Earlier this year, Ajith Kumar was honoured with the prestigious ‘Gentleman Driver of the Year 2025’ award in Venice, Italy. The award, instituted by the SRO Motorsports Group in memory of entrepreneur and racing driver Philippe Charriol, recognises excellence in global GT racing.
The honour marked a significant milestone in Ajith’s racing career, which he formally embraced this year by launching Ajith Kumar Racing. The team went on to compete in at least four demanding international championships, earning multiple accolades. Notably, Ajith did not limit himself to team ownership, choosing instead to race alongside his teammates and live his long-cherished dream on the track.
