Innocent laid to rest with full state honours; thousands pay last respects

Thrissur: Malayalees bid adieu to beloved actor and former Lok Sabha MP Innocent on Tuesday. The funeral began around 10 am at St Thomas Syro Malabar Cathedral in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur.

Thousands came in to pay their last respects to Innocent who passed away at the age of 75 on March 26. The funeral procession began from his residence ‘Parppidam’ and reached the church premises. The last rites were performed with complete state honours.

Numerous personalities from the film fraternity, including Dileep, Edavela Babu, Sathyan Anthikkad, Kavya Madhavan, Sai Kumar, Bindu Panicker, Joju George among others, attended the funeral. Ministers R Bindu and VN Vasavan also came to pay their last respects.

The actor, a cancer survivor, was reportedly not keeping well for some time and was admitted to the hospital on March 3 with respiratory problems. He passed away at 10:30 pm on Sunday night at VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi. The hospital said that the non-functioning of many organs and a heart attack led to the actor's death.
