Kochi: “God has given us tongues to speak out what we feel right,” said actor Dharmajan Bolgatty. While speaking to Mathrubhumi News on Wednesday, he mentioned that he views the resignation of Mohanlal and other executive committee members as a positive development.

“The media should understand one thing. Even if AMMA is dissolved, no big actor would be affected. The cinema will be there, and the actors will act in films. What would become of some poor artists who benefit from AMMA? They will be the only people who would suffer,” he said. “Mohanlal, Mammootty, and other big actors who earn crores for each film will have no problem. I am not a big actor. As of now, I have no financial issues. But if anything happens in the future, I will have to come before this organization to get help. There are many people who get such help from AMMA. We have to consider that too,” Dharmajan said.

“If this organization survives, that would be a great thing. It is easy to blame, but it is very difficult to do something good for others,” he said.

“AMMA needs money to provide support for artists who find it difficult to survive. For this, AMMA has to do art-related business, and the organisation needs big names like Mammootty and Mohanlal. No other names would bring in enough money. If the organisation gets dissolved, such fund collection would be affected. The repercussions would be felt among the families of the poor artists,” Dharmajan said.

“Young actors like Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, and Asif Ali have the qualities to lead the organisation. Let people with clean images come into key positions. Those who have left are not bad; they have left because they are decent individuals. In the past, there were attempts to bring Kunchacko Boban into the role of president. But I felt he had evaded those attempts to keep himself out of the picture. However, I feel he is quite suitable for a leadership role. Youngsters like Prithviraj and Asif Ali are also good for top jobs in the organisation,” Dharmajan said.
